Turkey arrests 49 ISIS suspects over holiday attack plot

Today Turkey arrested 49 alleged ISIS members in Ankara. According to a police official some of the suspects were planning an attack on the country’s 94th Republic Day celebration on October 29. Ankara’s chief public prosecutor’s office had issued arrest warrants for 55 foreign nationals. 49 of them were arrested.

Some of the suspects are also believed to have participated in armed conflicts abroad.

Turkey has been hit by several bloody attacks blamed on ISIS militants over the past two years, including a New Year attack this year on an elite Istanbul nightclub during which 39 people were killed by an ISIS gunman.

Turkish police launch raids almost daily against suspected ISIS cells across the country.
